Oyo State elephant attack leaves one man dead and another missing in Innayin community as police begin investigation and search operation

A tragic wild animal attack in Innayin community, Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of Oyo State, has claimed the life of a man identified as Ibrahim Tijani, after he was assaulted by a stray elephant on Thursday.

The elephant attack also left another resident, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, injured and missing following the same encounter, prompting an urgent search and rescue operation by security agencies.

According to local sources, the incident occurred when the elephant reportedly strayed into the community, causing panic and chaos among residents before attacking the victims.

Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade stating that officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, working alongside local vigilantes and hunters to secure the area.

Olayinka Ayanlade said Ibrahim Tijani was found lifeless in a nearby bush with injuries consistent with a severe animal attack.

His body was later evacuated to the General Hospital in Iwere-Ile for preservation and further examination.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to locate Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, who was reported missing after the encounter with the same elephant.

Authorities have urged residents of Innayin and surrounding communities to avoid the affected area while security operatives continue monitoring the situation and tracking the animal.

The police assured the public that the situation is under control, describing the response as coordinated and ongoing to prevent further casualties.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over human-wildlife encounters in rural parts of Oyo State, where expanding settlements increasingly border wildlife habitats.
