Ibadan theft case sees woman arraigned for allegedly refusing to return mistakenly transferred bank transfer in Oyo State court

A 40-year-old woman, Isoken Idunueko, was on Friday arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over an allegation of theft involving a mistaken bank transfer of ₦2,040.

The defendant, who resides in the Elebu area of Ibadan, is accused of refusing to return the money after it was reportedly sent in error to her Zenith Bank account.

Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the incident occurred in February at Oke-Itunu, Mokola area of Ibadan, where the complainant, Sandra Okwueze, allegedly contacted the defendant after discovering the error.

Adedosu alleged that the defendant declined to refund the money despite repeated requests, leading to the criminal charge filed against her under Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of theft.

Magistrate A. T. Oyediji granted her bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum, ordering that one of the sureties must be a landed property owner residing in the same property.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter until June 2, 2026, for hearing.
