Police confirm a Katsina village attack that left 11 dead and two injured, with security forces intensifying efforts to track suspects
The Katsina State Police Command, led by Police Public Relations Officer Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, on Monday, April 28, 2026, in Katsina State, confirmed a deadly attack by suspected bandits at Gurbi Village in Kankara Local Government Area, leaving 11 people dead and two others injured.

Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu said the attackers struck at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, opening fire on unsuspecting residents and killing victims on the spot.
He stated that the assailants fled as security forces advanced towards the scene following a distress call.
The police spokesman confirmed that a joint security team, including personnel from the police, military, and other agencies, responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to retreat.
He added that the injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment, while the deceased were buried according to Islamic rites.
Following the incident, the command reinforced security in the area by deploying additional tactical teams to prevent further attacks.
Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu said intensified patrols had also been ordered, alongside closer collaboration between security agencies and local communities.
He described the incident as a heinous act and assured that efforts were ongoing to track down those responsible.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security authorities as the investigation continues.
