Lagos Assembly endorses Tinubu, confirms new clerk

Lagos Assembly backs Tinubu second term, citing reforms and growth, as lawmakers confirm a new Clerk and key appointments

The Lagos State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, on Tuesday, April 28, in Lagos, endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, adopting a resolution that praised the administration’s reforms and pledged support for re-election.

The motion, moved by Oladipo Ajomale, received unanimous backing during plenary.

Members cited what they described as bold and transformative policy decisions under the current administration.

Lawmakers pointed to the removal of fuel subsidy as a defining reform. Members said the measure saved trillions of naira and redirected funds into infrastructure and social programmes.

Legislators also highlighted exchange rate unification, noting improved transparency and renewed investor confidence.

The House praised the Nigerian Education Loan Fund for widening access to higher education.

Members said the scheme has created opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue academic goals.

Infrastructure development featured prominently in the debate. Lawmakers referenced major national projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto-Badagry corridor.

Members said the projects are driving connectivity, job creation and economic activity.

The Assembly also cited economic diplomacy under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Members referred to investment commitments from international partners, describing them as vital to long-term growth.

Measures to ease food inflation, including duty waivers on rice and wheat and the release of grain reserves, were also acknowledged.

Obasa described the endorsement as a clear signal of Lagos’ leadership role. The Speaker said the administration’s achievements have delivered tangible results across sectors and renewed public confidence.

In a related development, the Assembly confirmed Mrs Adenike Oshinowo as Clerk, marking a significant milestone as the first woman to hold the position.

The House also approved Mr Olaosebikan Ebenezer as Deputy Clerk, Mrs Latifat Ogbara as Chairman of the Service Commission, Mr Remi Bello as Commissioner, and Mrs Adeola Victoria Modupe as Secretary.

Obasa urged the appointees to serve with diligence and integrity. The Speaker said the appointments will strengthen administrative efficiency and enhance legislative performance.

The development underscores the Assembly’s unified stance and its strategic role in shaping political momentum ahead of future elections.
