Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu inaugurates a vital task force in Bauchi to implement the Safe School Initiative and protect students from threats

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu inaugurated the Safe School Initiative implementation task force in Bauchi, as part of a national strategy to fortify educational institutions against rising criminal activity.

Commissioner addressed a diverse group of stakeholders, highlighting the urgent need to shield students and staff from the escalating threats of banditry and abduction that have plagued the region.

The newly formed committee consists of senior police officers, inter-agency partners, and educational administrators.

Sani-Omolori Aliyu noted that schools have increasingly become targets for cultism, drug abuse, and violent incursions, which jeopardise the academic future of the state.

A secondary highlight of the ceremony involved the introduction of a new rapid-response communication protocol.

This system is designed to link rural schools directly to the nearest police divisional headquarters, ensuring that any suspicious activity is reported and acted upon within minutes.

Sani-Omolori Aliyu explained that the directive for this Safe School Initiative came directly from the Inspector-General of Police, who has mandated all state commands to adopt intelligence-led policing.

The Commissioner emphasised that the Bauchi State Command would prioritise proactive patrols around vulnerable campuses rather than merely reacting to incidents.

The task force is expected to conduct immediate risk assessments of all boarding schools within the state.

Sani-Omolori Aliyu tasked the members with identifying security gaps, such as broken perimeter fencing or lack of illumination, which could be exploited by criminal elements.

This formidable collaborative effort seeks to restore confidence among parents and guardians who have become hesitant to send their children to school.

The Commissioner stressed that the success of the programme relies on the patriotism and commitment of the committee members to uphold their responsibility to the next generation.

By fostering stronger ties between the police and local communities, the administration aims to create a robust network of informants.

Sani-Omolori Aliyu concluded the session by affirming that the Ministry of Education and security agencies must work as a unified front to ensure that learning environments remain sanctuaries of peace and development.
