Afenifere criticises Tinubu administration, alleging worsening poverty, insecurity and governance failures across Nigeria

The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organisation Afenifere has sharply criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja, Nigeria, on Wednesday, May 28, 2026, alleging that the federal government has worsened Nigeria’s socio-economic and security conditions since assuming office.

Afenifere made the remarks in a strongly worded statement titled “Tinubu’s Third Year Report: Summum Malum or Summum Bonum,” signed by its leader, His Royal Highness Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and National Publicity Secretary, Prince Justice Faloye.

In the statement, the group claimed that the current administration has deepened poverty, unemployment and insecurity across the country, describing the situation as alarming and deeply troubling.

Afenifere criticises Tinubu administration, stating that governance under the present leadership has fallen short of constitutional expectations regarding welfare and security of citizens.

The organisation cited Section 14 of the Nigerian Constitution, arguing that the primary responsibility of government is the protection and welfare of the people.

It further lamented that rising insecurity, kidnappings and killings in several states reflect what it described as a failure of governance and institutional safeguards.

The group also expressed concern over what it termed the erosion of democratic federalism and weakening of institutional checks within the country’s governance structure.

According to Afenifere, the situation has left many Nigerians disillusioned, particularly amid continued reports of violence, displacement and economic hardship.

The organisation also raised concerns over insecurity in states including Kwara and Oyo, describing the development as distressing and a sign of deepening national instability.

While urging urgent reforms, Afenifere warned that Nigeria risks further decline if decisive steps are not taken to address insecurity and economic challenges.

The statement has sparked renewed public debate over governance, security and economic direction under the Tinubu administration.
