The exchange, which surfaced on social media on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, comes just days after Leonard’s estranged wife, actress Peggy Ovire, publicly accused him of having an affair with Umeh, a married woman and mother, while allegedly delaying their divorce proceedings.
In her tribute to Leonard on his birthday, Umeh highlighted their friendship of more than a decade, describing it as one built on respect, loyalty, and genuine care.
She praised the actor, known as the Film Lord, for being consistent, grounded, and unshaken despite public assumptions.
“Happy Birthday to the one and only Film Lord,” she wrote. “For over a decade, we have shared a friendship built on respect, loyalty, and genuine care… Real connections do not need explanations. Friendship like ours is rare.”
Leonard replied warmly: “If we come back to this world, you’d still be my friend. 13 years of purposeful and supportive friendship is a rare blessing. You are family now. God bless you.”
The heartfelt exchange quickly reignited online discussions following Peggy Ovire’s recent social media posts.
She accused Leonard of failing to appear in court for their divorce and shared videos linking him romantically with Umeh.
The couple, who married in November 2022, has faced separation rumours for several months.
Both Leonard and Umeh have maintained that their relationship is purely platonic and rooted in a longstanding professional friendship within the Nollywood industry.
Umeh had previously offered prayers and support during Leonard and Ovire’s wedding preparations in 2022.
The latest public statements have drawn mixed reactions from fans, with some defending the actors’ friendship and others questioning the timing amid the ongoing marital dispute.
Leonard and Ovire’s divorce matter is scheduled for further hearing on 23 June 2026 at a customary court.
