Makinde confirms abducted pupils and teachers remain in Old Oyo National Park as rescue operations continue amid the Oyo abduction crisis

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday, June 12, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State, confirmed that abducted pupils and teachers from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities in Oriire Local Government Area remain within the Old Oyo National Park, as authorities intensify efforts to resolve the Oyo abduction crisis.

The Oyo abduction crisis has persisted for 27 days following coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School in Esiele, leaving families in prolonged anguish and uncertainty.

Governor Makinde, speaking through his official Newsletter No. 140, said security agencies continue to pursue credible intelligence to secure the safe release of the victims.

He stated that intelligence assessments indicate the abductees are being held within the expansive Old Oyo National Park axis, a vast and difficult terrain spanning about 2,500 square kilometres across multiple local government areas in the state.

He noted that the challenging geography has significantly complicated ongoing rescue operations linked to the Oyo abduction crisis.

Makinde acknowledged the emotional toll on affected families, describing the situation as deeply distressing, while reaffirming government commitment to resolving the Oyo abduction crisis through sustained coordination with security agencies.

He said, “Every credible lead is being pursued and every lawful measure is being deployed to secure the safe release of the abductees.”

The governor urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the state’s toll-free Citizens Enquiry Number, 615, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to breaking the stalemate in the Oyo abduction crisis.

He also warned against the spread of misinformation, describing it as a dangerous factor that could compromise ongoing rescue efforts and weaken operational effectiveness.

Makinde further appealed for calm and collective responsibility, assuring citizens that the state government and security forces remain committed to achieving a breakthrough in the rescue mission.
