Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Kautikari Village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday evening, killing one resident and setting part of a government secondary school ablaze.

The attack occurred at about 6:45 p.m. and targeted Government Day Secondary School in Kautikari, according to local authorities and security officials.

Malah Kyari, Education Secretary of Chibok Local Government Area, confirmed that the affected facility was the junior secondary section of the school.

“I can confirm that the insurgents attacked the Kautikari community yesterday, killed one person, and set ablaze one block containing five classrooms and an office at Kautikari JSS,” Kyari said.

The Boko Haram Attack Chibok School incident has renewed concerns over the security of educational facilities in communities that have repeatedly faced insurgent violence in Borno State.

The Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, also confirmed the attack but stated that security operatives successfully repelled the assailants before they could inflict greater damage.

According to Daso, the attackers burnt classrooms within the school premises and killed one male resident during the assault.

“They attacked Kautikari village, where they burnt two classrooms at Government Day Secondary School and killed one person, a man,” Daso said.

“The suspected insurgents faced strong resistance from joint security forces, averting further losses. As of now, the area is calm and intensive patrols are ongoing.”

There were slight variations in official accounts regarding the extent of the damage, with education authorities reporting that five classrooms and a staff office were destroyed, while police initially confirmed the destruction of two classrooms.

Samaila Manza, the Zonal Inspector for Local Government and Emirate Affairs overseeing Chibok, Bama, Gwoza, Askira/Uba and Damboa local government areas, said authorities were still assessing the full impact of the attack.

“I was informed that terrorists attacked the village, but we have not verified the actual extent of the damage they caused,” Manza said.

Local residents said the attackers arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and appeared to have deliberately targeted the school.

One resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said many villagers fled the community as the attackers advanced.

“I learnt they entered Kautikari on motorcycles. Many residents have fled for safety. They targeted the school and set it on fire. It was during their entry into the community that a man was killed,” the source said.

The latest Boko Haram Attack Chibok School incident underscores the continuing threat posed by insurgent groups in parts of northeastern Nigeria despite sustained military operations in the region.

Security forces have since intensified patrols around Kautikari and neighbouring communities to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased victim, while investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
