ACAMB marks 30 years with nationwide tree planting initiative

ACAMB 30th anniversary tree planting in Lagos highlights three decades of banking communications excellence and environmental commitment

The Association of Corporate Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks ACAMB has kicked off its 30th anniversary celebrations with a remarkable tree planting exercise held on Providence Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, underscoring a renewed commitment to environmental sustainability and industry-wide reputation building.

The ACAMB 30th anniversary tree planting event brought together senior banking communication professionals, regulators and industry stakeholders, including President Jide Sipe and the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Akin Morakinyo, alongside vice presidents, executive committee members and heads of marketing and corporate communications across various banks.

Despite heavy rainfall during the exercise, participants proceeded with the planting activity, creating a striking image of resilience and shared purpose.

Each participating bank had a tree planted and named in its honour, symbolising long-term growth, accountability and environmental responsibility.

ACAMB President, Jide Sipe, described the milestone as both reflective and forward-looking, noting that the association was founded on the principle of strengthening trust and professionalism within Nigeria’s banking sector.

He said the initiative reinforces ACAMB’s commitment to enhancing brand credibility, customer loyalty and ethical communication practices across the industry.

He further outlined a series of anniversary activities scheduled to run through September 2026, including a Golf and Networking Experience at Ikoyi Club, Lagos, and a grand gala night set to conclude the celebrations.

Delivering remarks at the event, Akin Morakinyo unveiled the anniversary logo and praised ACAMB for its sustained partnership with the institute.

He urged members to uphold professionalism and ethics, describing the anniversary as “dedicated to the glory of God and service to humanity”.

A founding member of ACAMB, Dr Nkechi Ali Balogun, provided historical context, recalling that the association was established in 1996 by representatives of major financial institutions, including United Bank for Africa United Bank for Africa, Union Bank, IBWA (now Afribank), NEXIM Bank, First Bank, Bank of the North, Savannah Bank and the Central Bank of Nigeria Central Bank of Nigeria. She noted that the founding vision was to reduce rivalry-driven misinformation and strengthen industry cohesion.

Another Board of Trustees member, Ogie Eboigbe, reflected on the association’s early mission to curb damaging competition among banks, which he said had previously eroded public confidence in the sector.

He credited early pioneers and trustees for laying a strong institutional foundation that continues to guide ACAMB’s work today.

The tree planting initiative was widely viewed as a symbolic milestone, reflecting ACAMB’s evolution over three decades and its continued role in shaping positive narratives within Nigeria’s banking industry.

Industry stakeholders say the association remains a key voice in advancing communication standards and restoring trust across financial services in Nigeria and beyond.
