Activist Sunday Igboho has issued a strong warning against Yoruba people collaborating with Fulani groups in kidnapping incidents. The Sunday Igboho warning has sparked intense debate on self-help security and ethnic tensions in Nigeria

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, addressed a group of supporters in Igboho, Oyo State, on Monday, 22 June 2026, where he issued a stern warning that he would kill any Yoruba person found collaborating with Fulani groups in the kidnapping of residents in the region.

In a video that has circulated widely on social media, Mr Igboho spoke passionately while surrounded by local men, accusing some individuals of conniving with external elements to terrorise their own communities.

His remarks came amid recent celebrations following the release of kidnapped victims in the area after he issued a short ultimatum.

Mr Igboho declared in the recording: “There are some Yorubas collaborating with Fulani groups in the kidnapping of our people and aiding them. I will kill any Yoruba person supporting and conniving with Fulani to kidnap in our lands.”

This latest statement reflects ongoing security challenges in parts of Oyo State and the Southwest, where kidnapping has become a persistent threat.

Mr Igboho first gained national prominence several years ago as a vocal advocate for Yoruba self-determination, particularly during farmer-herder clashes. He previously lived in exile in Benin Republic before returning to Nigeria.

While many residents in affected communities applaud such strong stances as necessary in the face of perceived government inaction, others have expressed concern that the rhetoric could inflame ethnic tensions or encourage vigilante actions outside the law.

Critics draw parallels with previous cases where similar inflammatory statements led to legal consequences for other activists.

A community leader present at the gathering praised the activist’s commitment but urged focus on intelligence-driven solutions.

Another observer familiar with the security situation remarked that “frustration is high, but we must not allow crime to divide us further along ethnic lines.”

The development has triggered heated discussions online, with some users supporting decisive community action and others calling for restraint and reliance on formal security agencies.

As Southwest Nigeria continues to grapple with banditry and abduction cases, the Sunday Igboho warning highlights the delicate balance between community frustration and the rule of law.
