INEC fake document warning issued as the electoral body disowns a circulating list of purported APC candidates for 2027 Lagos House of Representatives elections, urging reliance on official channels only
The Independent National Electoral Commission has firmly debunked a document circulating on social media that falsely claims to list All Progressives Congress candidates for the Federal House of Representatives elections in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general polls.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, through the commission’s official channels on Monday, June 22, 2026, categorically stated that the purported public notice is fake, misleading and did not emanate from INEC.
The commission stressed that it has not authorised or published any such notice regarding candidate lists for the 2027 elections.
It further clarified that the document does not originate from any official INEC platform or process, and the signature appearing on it does not belong to the Secretary to the Commission.
INEC advised members of the public, political parties, stakeholders and the media to disregard the document entirely.
“The Commission remains committed to providing timely, accurate and credible information on all electoral activities,” the statement emphasised.

This latest INEC fake document alert highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in Nigeria’s electoral landscape as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 polls.
Such fabricated notices often aim to create confusion, mislead voters or test public reaction to potential candidates.
The commission urged citizens to rely solely on verified information disseminated through its official communication channels to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
This proactive clarification reflects INEC’s determination to combat fake news and ensure transparency during the pre-election period.
