A tragic road accident occurred on Monday, September 28, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m. in the Meiran area of Lagos State, claiming the life of a female tricycle (keke) driver in a crash linked to a reported one-way traffic violation.

The incident, which caused panic among residents and road users in the area, involved a tricycle that was said to have driven against traffic before it collided with an oncoming vehicle along the busy Lagos Abeokuta express way.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the impact to Freelanews reporter as sudden and severe.

According to them, the tricycle was struck at the side, causing the driver to lose control.

The force of the collision reportedly caused her head to hit the front of the vehicle, leading to fatal injuries.

The victim, a woman believed to be in her late 30s or early 40s and described as fair in complexion, was confirmed dead at the scene.

Sympathisers who rushed to assist immediately after the crash said there was little they could do to save her life due to the severity of the impact.

A relative of the deceased was later said to have arrived at the scene and identified the body, a moment that further heightened emotions among onlookers.

The accident led to a temporary disruption of movement in the area as residents gathered, while concerned motorists struggled to navigate the scene.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no immediate official statement from traffic authorities or emergency agencies regarding the incident.

However, efforts were said to have been made to restore order and manage traffic flow in the area.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers of one-way driving and reckless traffic violations, which continue to contribute to avoidable road fatalities across Lagos State.

Residents have called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved road safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
