An elderly woman in Nkanu, Enugu State, has been seen in a viral video responding to allegations that she caused the deaths of people in her community through charms.
In the video shared on social media, the woman reportedly said, “If I did anything against any human being, let evil happen to me.”
Reports surrounding the incident indicate that villagers accused her of using spiritual means to harm residents. She was allegedly taken to the graveside of a woman who had recently died and made to take an oath concerning the death.
However, the allegations against the elderly woman have not been independently verified, and there is no confirmed evidence establishing that she was responsible for any deaths in the community.
The incident has raised concerns about the public humiliation of people accused of witchcraft or spiritual attacks without established evidence. Such accusations can expose vulnerable people, particularly older women, to intimidation, discrimination and possible violence.
While the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, allegations of wrongdoing should be handled through lawful procedures rather than public punishment or humiliation.
There has been no independently verified information establishing the woman’s guilt or confirming the circumstances behind the villagers’ actions.
