The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a traffic advisory issued on Thursday, October 15, urging motorists to plan their journeys and use designated alternative routes throughout the project.
According to the advisory, a contraflow arrangement will be introduced on the Lagos-bound side of the road, between Samuel Manuwa Street and Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre, while rehabilitation work is carried out on the other carriageway.
Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp or Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki have been advised to use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park.
They will then connect to Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed through Akinbo Savage Street and link Bishop Aboyade Cole Street before accessing the expressway through School Corner near Black Diamond towards Sandfield.
For motorists travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola Street, the state government advised them to pass through IMB and connect to the Coastal Road entrance through Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Eko Hotel Roundabout.
From there, motorists can proceed through Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.
Motorists departing from Bonny Camp can also use Ahmadu Bello Way to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance.
They would then proceed through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Eko Hotel Roundabout axis towards Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street, en route to Black Diamond School Corner.
Those travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Civic Centre will be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner near Black Diamond towards Sandfield.
Motorists exiting through the 1004 gate, as well as other road users along the route, will be directed to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before continuing through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.
For motorists travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi, the advisory directs them to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street, connect to Akin Adesola Street and proceed towards the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to coordinate traffic and minimise disruptions throughout the rehabilitation period.
“As preliminary works of the project commences at VGC, the State Government will deploy Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to coordinate vehicle movement, reduce congestion and minimize inconvenience,” the advisory stated.
The commissioner urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead of the commencement of the rehabilitation and comply with traffic management arrangements put in place by the state government.
