The Oluoke of Okeigbo Kingdom in Ondo State, Oba Akintoye Adeoye, has said his Christian faith has not stopped him from performing traditional rites required of a monarch.
In an interview, the traditional ruler explained that he underwent the necessary traditional rites during his coronation process.
He noted that African Traditional Religion was one of the subjects he studied during his Higher School Certificate programme and later in his theological education.
Oba Adeoye said the Bible teaches people to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.
According to him, there may occasionally be situations in which traditional practices appear to conflict with aspects of Christian belief. However, his understanding of African Traditional Religion has helped him approach such matters with knowledge, judgment and perspective rather than fear.
He added that within the traditional worldview, prayers and libations ultimately recognise Eledumare, the Supreme Being.
The monarch, who also has a background in law and ministry, said this understanding allows him to fulfil both his Christian faith and traditional responsibilities.
