The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the shootings at the Lekki Toll Gate during the EndSARS protests.
Sowore made the demand on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, as Nigeria marked the sixth anniversary of the protests.

In a post on X, the AAC candidate questioned why those responsible for the incident had not been prosecuted six years after the demonstrations.
“Where are the killers? Who ordered the shootings at LekkiTollGate? Who has been prosecuted?” Sowore wrote.
He also called for investigations into the alleged roles of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, military and police commanders, and other individuals he linked to the incident.
Sowore further questioned allegations that CCTV cameras at the toll gate were removed before the shootings, urging authorities to investigate the claim.
The AAC presidential candidate said the EndSARS protests went beyond calls for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
According to him, the movement represented a broader revolt against alleged police brutality, torture, extortion and extrajudicial killings.
Sowore pledged that if elected president in 2027, his administration would reopen investigations into the Lekki Toll Gate incident.
He said the investigation would seek to establish the chain of command and identify those responsible for the incident.
The politician also promised that anyone found culpable would face prosecution, regardless of their rank or political connections.

His comments come as Nigerians mark six years since the EndSARS protests, which became one of the country’s most significant youth-led demonstrations against police brutality and poor governance.
