Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have reportedly killed four Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) leaders, including two Arab fighters, alongside a commander and several foot soldiers during an operation in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Nigerian Army said the operation took place on October 31, 2026, after ISWAP fighters launched a major attack on troops’ positions in the area.

The Acting Military Information Officer of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed the development in a statement on Sunday, explaining that the troops deployed ground forces alongside air assets to repel the attackers.
According to Goni, the engagement dealt a significant blow to ISWAP’s leadership and operational capacity.
The four identified individuals reportedly killed included Abu Hajara, described as a high-profile member of the group’s Shura Council, and Abul Walid, a prominent commander and close associate of Ba Shuwa, identified as ISWAP’s overall Wali.
The other two were described by the military as high-ranking Arab fighters.
Goni said troops also recovered several weapons, ammunition and communication devices following the operation.
He described the outcome as evidence of the combat readiness and operational capability of Operation Hadin Kai forces, adding that the military would sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating across the region.
The Kukawa engagement came barely three days after another military operation in Buni Yadi, where troops reportedly neutralised 55 terrorists, including several commanders.
Those identified by the military included Ali Mandara Abba Gajiri, also known as Munzir, Habu Ikkima Nakif Yana Faruk and Commander Gogore.
The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to protecting civilians and continuing military operations against insurgent groups in the North-East.

It also pledged to intensify efforts to dismantle terrorist camps and eliminate the threat posed by the groups across the region.
