Medical doctors under the Association of Medical and Dental Officers (AMDO), Oyo State chapter, have suspended their week-long strike and returned to work across state-owned hospitals.

The doctors resumed clinical duties on Monday, November 2, 2026, following an emergency congress held by the association on Sunday.

The industrial action, which began on October 26, disrupted services at several government health facilities in the state.

Hospitals where doctors have reportedly resumed work include Ring Road State Hospital, Government Chest Hospital, Jericho Specialist Hospital and Oni Memorial Children Hospital.

The strike was embarked upon over several demands, including improved welfare packages, payment of outstanding allowances and the recruitment of additional medical officers to address staffing shortages.

In a statement on Monday, AMDO General Secretary, Dr Abdulazeez Gbadamosi, said the decision to suspend the industrial action was reached during the emergency congress.

He said the association’s executive council appreciated members for their commitment to the strike and the confidence they had placed in its leadership.

Gbadamosi also acknowledged the contributions of elders who participated in mediation efforts, describing their intervention as helpful in restoring some level of industrial harmony.

According to him, the congress resolved to suspend the strike from November 2 to November 15 to allow further negotiations with the relevant authorities.

He directed members to resume full clinical activities from 8am on Monday.

The general secretary added that the association would review the progress of negotiations at a later date, indicating that discussions over the outstanding demands would continue during the suspension period.

The temporary suspension provides an opportunity for further engagement between the doctors and the state government, while medical services continue across the affected public hospitals.
