Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would leave his wife if she became president and governed in the same manner as President Bola Tinubu, as he called on Nigerians to reject the incumbent in the 2027 presidential election.

Amaechi made the remarks during an interview with Rapid TV, urging Nigerians to put aside religious, political and ethnic affiliations when assessing the performance of the current administration.

The former Rivers State governor said his emotional attachment to his wife would not stop him from opposing her if her leadership reflected what he described as Tinubu’s style of governance.

“Today, the closest person in my life is my wife, not my children.

So tomorrow, if my wife becomes president and is doing what Tinubu is doing, I’ll be mad to follow my wife, despite my emotional attachment to her.

It’s either she changes, or I leave her, he said.

Amaechi argued that Nigerians should evaluate the President based on his administration’s performance rather than allow personal relationships or group affiliations to influence their political decisions.

He urged voters to consider giving the opposition an opportunity in the 2027 election, arguing that the current administration had already been tested in office.

There’s a difference between Tinubu’s team and our team.

They have been tested, so you know that the next four years you will die.

We have not been tested, so give us a chance, he said.

However, Amaechi acknowledged that his own record in public office could be examined by Nigerians, having served as governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation.

He maintained that his performance in those positions was open to public scrutiny, pointing to projects undertaken during his time in government.

The only person you can say that has been tested is me, because I’ve been a governor.

But my record speaks for itself.

I was once a minister.

Projects are out there,he said.

He also challenged Nigerians to visit Rivers State and independently assess his record as governor.

Amaechi further criticised Tinubu’s administration, using the computer expression “garbage in, garbage out” to argue that returning the President to office would produce similar outcomes.

The former minister also called on Nigerians to participate actively in the forthcoming election and protect their votes against alleged electoral malpractice.

Citing voter participation in the United States, where he said about 52 million people had already voted, Amaechi urged Nigerians to turn out in large numbers and remain vigilant during the electoral process.

He questioned claims of planned election rigging, arguing that a government confident of its popular support would have no reason to boast about manipulating the results.
