Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has called on the federal and state governments to commit more funds to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Mrs Buhari made the call in a statement made available to journalists on Monday by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Aliyu Abdullahi.

The statement was titled, ‘Aisha Buhari champions the cause of malnourished children during the COVID-19 era in Nigeria.”

The statement described malnutrition as one of the major causes of mortality and underdevelopment among children under five in Nigeria before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It quoted Mrs Buhari as expressing a strong belief that making provisions for this category of children is a step towards upholding their rights to good nutrition and their right to life.
