CAC boss removed over scandal

The acting-registrar of Nigeria’s CAC, Azinge, has been removed from her position pending when her trial before the CCT is concluded.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has ordered the suspension of the acting registrar-general of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Azinge Asuka, until the wrap-up of the case against her before the judicial body.

Premium Times reports that the CCT confirmed the order in a statement signed by the tribunal’s spokesperson, Ibraheem Al-Hassan, on Friday, December 27 night.

The body said the order was issued in an ex-parte ruling on Tuesday, December 24.

After the suspension, the CCT also directed the Minister for Trade and Industry, Richard Adeniyi Adebayo, to appoint a replacement for Azinge.

Legit.ng had reported on December 24 that the acting registrar-general, Lady Azuka Obiageli Azinge, was arraigned before the CCT on an 11-count charge in which she was accused of concealing her assets.

She was said to have also concealed her naira, Euro and dollar domiciliary accounts in two banks.

She was also accused of receiving allowances which she knew she was not entitled to as an acting registrar-general of the CAC.

Earlier this year, the Gombe state chapter of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) urged public servants to declare their assets as part of constitutional requirements.

The bureau’s director in the state, Panyi Baira, gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Tuesday, February 19.

He said the asset declaration is a constitutional requirement that has to be fulfilled by all government workers from the lowest government employee to the highest office in the country as required by law.
