‘How naive’ MURIC attacks CAN over Kwara government approval of Muslim pupils wearing hijab

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has launched a scathing attack on the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kwara State chapter, for opposing government’s decision to allow Muslim pupils wear hijabs to schools.

In a statement captioned ‘MURIC lauds Kwara Gov For Approving Hijab’, the rights group said the decision of the State government was bold, forthright and far-reaching, while describing CAN’s disapproval as naive and shallow.

The group advised CAN to accept the decision, respect the rule of law and eschew actions capable of causing any breakdown of law and order.

CAN, in reaction to the government decision had argued that allowing hijab in schools would give terrorists easy identification of Christian children and wards.

The Christian organisation also called on Christians in Kwara to occupy all grant-aided schools in the State until the decision is reversed.

MURIC’s statement signed by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola and made available to reporters on Monday, added, “How naïve and shallow! If the hijab can allow terrorists to identify Christian children, does it also help in identifying Muslim boys? This line of thinking is kindergarten, insipid, infantile and pedestrian.”

The Islamic rights group further boasted that all the efforts of CAN Osun chapter to frustrate the use of hijab in the State by directing Christian children to wear masquerade and church choir dresses to school all proved abortive.

“In like manner, we must ask CAN Kwara chapter, for how long will you occupy grant-aided schools?” MURIC asked.

“CAN leadership in Kwara State may be planning to import hoodlums into the state to implement its #occupygrantaidedschools agenda. The same hired hooligans may unleash mayhem on the state when the planned occupation fails,” it added.
