‘Prophetic!’ Sanwo-Olu reveals Lekki is reaping from Awolowo’s blessing

The Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos State is thriving, according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, because of the prophetic pronouncements of the late sage and premier of the former Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Sanwo-Olu made this comment after seeing ‘Awo: The Man, His Jewel, and…,’ a stage musical drama production directed by Makinde Adeniran and produced by The Duke of Shomolu, a theatrical group managed by Joseph Edgar.

The concert, which took place at the Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos, brought back memories of Awolowo’s incarceration at Ibeju-Lekki, where he spent many months and bestowed blessings on the town.

It also showcased the political life and times of the late sage and his wife, late Chief (Mrs) Hannah Dideolu Awolowo, who was described as ‘Jewel of inestimable value’ by her husband.

In his address, Sanwo-Olu said, “For those who do not know, or who have forgotten, Papa Awolowo was incarcerated in Lekki Town, Ibeju-Lekki, and he made prophetic utterances that the place will flourish and be prosperous.

“Those prayers have continued to prosper the town as Ibeju-Lekki today is the most talked about in real estate and property development. Also, no other place can be talked about in Nigeria now like Ibeju-Lekki, particularly Lekki town in the area of refineries, petrochemical plants and seaports, among others. Today, Papa Awolowo’s blessings have come true upon that town,” he said.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo led other prominent Nigerians, including his wife, Dolapo Osinbajo; Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; former Governors of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba and Otunba Gbenga Daniel; Awolowo’s grandchildren, Segun and his mother, Mrs. Abah Zainab Folawiyo and Professor Bankole Oyediran, husband of Awolowo’s late daughter, Mrs. Omotola Oyediran, among others to accord honour to the late sage and his wife.
