A quick flashback to 2008, Hwang Dong-hyuk Squid Game writer who was reportedly living with his mother and grandmother at the time and was so poor that he sold his laptop for cash wrote the eye catching series and most watched series in recent weeks.

He believed it was too tough and strange although he wasn’t sure if it would be fancied.

Ofcourse it wasn’t accepted at that time after various local studios had rejected the apocalyptic horror series for being too gruesome and unrealistic.

Fast forward to over 10 years later, the show has hit No. 1 on Netflix in more than 90 countries, including Nigeria. ‘Squid Game’ is also on course to become the most popular show on the streaming service’s history, surpassing ‘Bridgerton.’

A South Korean horror movie, ‘Squid Game’ with about 456 individuals competing in a series of children’s games with a macabre twist for a chance to earn 45.6 billion Korean won in prize money (about N12 billion).

The players are deliberately chosen by the game organizers because of their crippling debts and troubling gambling histories, which make them vulnerable to the excessive reward money on offer.

The nine-episode series focuses on various universal topics, giving it a global appeal.

Many people are moved by the series’ deft depiction of the widening gap between social strata around the world.
It reflects capitalism and satirizes its harshness in a way that practically everyone can understand.

It also jolted the globe into a frenzy of gambling addiction, with characters eager to risk their lives for money, despite the fact that the odds are stacked against them inexorably.
