The Nigerian Union of Journalists, Cross River State chapter has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to sack his Service Chiefs with a view to improving the security situation in the Country.

The Union that reviewed the security situation in the country its monthly congress lamented the deteriorating security situation in the country.

In a communiqué issued on Friday signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Union, Comrade Victor Udu and Comrade Oka Ibor respectively and made available to our correspondent, the Union decried the deteriorating security situation in the country.

“Congress decried the deteriorating security situation in the county and the State, resulting in incessant loss of lives and called for the immediate removal of Service Chiefs who have overstayed their tenure.

“Congress further called on Heads of Security agencies in the State to intensify efforts to reduce the rate of criminality in the State.

On the proliferation of checkpoints by security operatives, the congress condemned the proliferation of checkpoints in Calabar, the State Capital, where members of the public are being extorted by some security and regulatory agents and called on the relevant authorities to checkmate the activities of these officers

Consequently, the Union condemned in strong terms the non-implementation of the new minimum wage by some state governors in the country and called on those states to expedite action for the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage.

“Congress calls on the Cross River State Government to put appropriate measures in place to check the influx of Chinese Nationals into the State to avert the spread of the Coronavirus disease in the State.

“Congress called on the new management of the Cross River State Water Board to immediately restore the supply of potable water in the state to reduce the hardship faced by the people, especially in this dry season.”

The Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held its State Congress at the Ernest Etm Bassey Press Centre, Calabar and was presided over by the State Chairman, Comrade Victor Udu.
