‘It’s an enormous damage’ Oluwo of Iwo implores FG to heal wound caused by 1967 civil war on Igbos

Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun, has urged Nigeria’s federal government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, with healing the wounds inflicted on various ethnic groups, particularly the Igbos, during the 1967 civil war.

Oba Akanbi called for a unification conference to analyze the damage caused by the civil war to Igbos and to propose a palliative capable of building long-term affinity among the country’s varied ethnic groupings.

Oluwo praised the Igbos’ fortitude and generosity toward Nigeria, describing the damage as “enormous.”

He noted that the Igbos are important stakeholders in Nigeria’s technological growth, innovation, and invention, and urged the federal government to convene a stakeholders meeting to review and provide competent assistance to undo the damage inflicted by the conflict.

He also promised to pay a visit to Igbo rulers shortly to exchange greetings and discuss the country’s unity.

Oluwo’s press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, issued the following statement:

“The Nigerian Civil War, which lasted from July 1967 to January 15, 1970, caused enormous devastation. The Igbos suffered the greatest loss of lives and property. They’re both our brothers. The damage caused by the war is harmful to Nigeria’s unity. Many victims and their children are still reeling from the experience.”

“The Nigerian federal government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, should consider holding a national conference to examine and discuss palliatives capable of eradicating the sensation and memory of the damages.”

“I commend the magnanimity and resiliency of the Igbo. Despite the huge loss, they have moved on. Today, they are the leading industrialists in promotion of Nigeria’s technological advancement

“Calling a national dialogue will foster unity and heal the wound inflicted by the harm. We should learn from the past, forgives ourselves and forget. But for dreamed unity to achieved, the constituted authority of the federal government led by President Muhammed Buhari must lead the conference and render succour to the lead victims

I’ve planned a tour to some Eze Ndigbo, Igwe and stakeholders to strengthen the unity of Nigeria. I am the Oluwo of Iwoland but I am also an Igwe,Obi, Eze in Yorubaland to all Igbos. Igbos are our brothers and sisters.” he added.
