The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted cocaine consignments belonging to a Brazil based drug cartel at Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Lagos airports.
In a statement issued by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, on Sunday, seven traffickers, all Nigerians, were arrested at the different airports on April 9, 12, 13 and 15.
“Desperate attempts by a Brazil based drug cartel to smuggle large consignments of cocaine into Nigeria through three major international airports in Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos have been foiled by operatives of the NDLEA,” the statement reads.
The arrested persons are Odogwu Johnson, Ezekwueme Valentine, Chiezie Arinze, Uchechukwu Unwugbufor, Nwogu Ezimadu, Sebastine Kelvin and Uba Samuel.
Mohammed Marwa, Chairman of the NDLEA also said the seizures at the airport will send a strong message to drug barons that, Nigeria will no longer condone drug trafficking.
According to the report, five suspects were arrested at the Port Harcourt airport, one at the Lagos airport, and one at the Abuja airport.
