Fact Check: No herdsmen blocked Benin-Ore road

Contrary to the video making the rounds in the last 24hours about commuters being stranded on Benin-Ore road due to herdsmen attack on a village and blocking the road, it has been confirmed by Freelanews that the narrative was misleading.

According to a source, who didn’t want his name in the press, claimed that some Fulani herdsmen kidnapped a man in truth, whose identity is unknown as at the time of this publication, from a village called Ugbogui in Iguobazuwa Ovia South West, in Edo State.

Unfortunately, the kidnappers eventually killed the man.

“The police from Iguobazuwa division went to the bush on Saturday, days after the incident and recovered the decomposing corpse but the villagers hijacked the corpse from the police and use it to block the Lagos/Benin Express since 1pm,” he said.

It was the police that later mobilised to pacify the villagers to open the road around 5pm while promising that the culprits would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
