Adeboye Defence Message urges young Nigerians to reject ethnic division, verify claims and prioritise national unity

A public affairs advocate has issued an Adeboye Defence Message urging young Nigerians to reject divisive political narratives, defend national unity and avoid being drawn into ethnic and religious tensions ahead of future political contests.

In an open letter addressed to young Nigerians, the writer reflected on lessons from the 2023 elections, particularly in Lagos, arguing that political conversations shifted away from governance, competence and development towards tribal sentiments and ethnic divisions.

The statement warned that some political actors resort to identity politics when they struggle to compete on ideas, performance and vision, creating divisions that make citizens easier to manipulate.

According to the letter, similar patterns are beginning to emerge again through narratives that are subtly introduced and amplified across public discourse.

A central theme of the Adeboye Defence Message was the defence of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who was described as a respected national figure whose public ministry has consistently promoted peace, prayer, reconciliation and unity.

The statement argued that Pastor Adeboye’s decades-long commitment to national harmony should not be overshadowed by attempts to draw him into political controversies or public disputes.

It further noted that at 84 years of age, the responsibility for shaping Nigeria’s future should rest primarily with younger citizens rather than religious leaders of the older generation.

The writer called on young Nigerians to take ownership of national conversations, champion reforms and drive the positive change needed across the country.

The statement also cautioned citizens against becoming tools for individuals who publicly advocate unity while privately encouraging division.

According to the letter, such campaigns often target social cohesion rather than the individuals at the centre of public criticism.

In a powerful appeal, the writer encouraged Nigerians to question narratives, verify information and resist manipulation regardless of political, ethnic or religious affiliations.

The letter concluded with a call for citizens to prioritise the country’s collective future over narrow interests, stressing that lasting national progress can only be achieved through unity, mutual respect and informed civic engagement.
