Air Peace fleet expansion gains momentum with a new Boeing 737-800 NG and direct Lagos-Barbados flights

Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest carrier, has expanded its operations with the addition of a new Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft and the launch of direct commercial flights between Lagos and Barbados.

The airline confirmed that the newly acquired aircraft, registered as 5N-CGD, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday, 24 May 2026, as part of its ongoing Air Peace fleet expansion strategy aimed at meeting rising passenger demand across domestic and regional routes.

According to the carrier, the Boeing 737-800 NG is configured with 189 Economy Class seats and is designed to improve passenger capacity, operational efficiency and onboard comfort.

The airline said the aircraft features larger overhead storage compartments, advanced avionics, modern safety systems and fuel-efficient engines, making it one of the most dependable narrow-body aircraft operating globally.

“The addition of this aircraft is part of our strategic drive to meet rising passenger demand across domestic and regional markets,” the airline stated.

Air Peace explained that the aircraft would strengthen route deployment and improve schedule reliability across its growing network within Nigeria and other African destinations.

“The Boeing 737-800 NG is designed to deliver enhanced passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and scheduling flexibility across both domestic and regional routes,” the carrier added.

The airline also highlighted the environmental and economic advantages of the aircraft, noting that its fuel-efficient engines would help reduce operating costs and lower carbon emissions.

Air Peace described the acquisition as another bold step towards strengthening regional connectivity and supporting its broader ambition of positioning Nigeria as a major aviation hub in Africa.

Meanwhile, the airline has also commenced direct commercial flights between Lagos and Barbados in a significant move to deepen air connectivity between Africa and the Caribbean.

The inaugural scheduled commercial service departed Lagos on 24 May aboard a Boeing 777 aircraft carrying more than 284 passengers.

Among dignitaries on the historic flight were Air Peace Chief Commercial Officer, Nowel Ngala; Barbados High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland; actress Temitope Olowoniyan; alongside other airline delegates and travellers.

Air Peace said the new route would eliminate many of the longstanding travel difficulties experienced by passengers travelling between Africa and the Caribbean, particularly multiple stopovers, lengthy transit periods and complicated visa processes.

The airline added that the Lagos-Barbados connection would provide a more convenient option for tourists, business travellers, diaspora communities and cultural exchange programmes across both regions.

Industry stakeholders described the launch as a powerful milestone in the airline’s expanding international operations and a strategic boost for Nigeria’s aviation sector.

According to the carrier, the Barbados service is expected to create fresh opportunities for tourism, trade, investment and stronger cultural ties between West Africa and the Caribbean.
