The incident, which occurred on Monday, was reportedly triggered by an electrical surge from the air-conditioning system within the studio.
The fire rapidly engulfed the facility before firefighters arrived to contain the blaze.
According to Oyo State Fire Service Chairman, Maroof Akinwande, first responders from the state fire department arrived swiftly and worked to prevent the flames from spreading beyond the affected building.
“When they arrived, the studio was engulfed in flames and smoke,” Akinwande said.
“They managed to stop the fire from spreading to other areas. No casualty was recorded, and we were able to save properties worth millions of naira.”
Akinwande advised institutions and the public to keep functional fire extinguishers and know how to operate them effectively in case of emergency.
“Small fires can be stopped early if the right tools are available. Prevention is key,” he added.
The Ajayi Crowther University fire comes just days after a similar incident at Fresh 105.9 FM in Ibadan.
That blaze also led to significant property damage. On July 9, 2025, five shops were destroyed in another fire outbreak in the state capital.
