The requests were conveyed in separate letters read during plenary in Abuja on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
In the first correspondence addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu cited Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, as the basis for forwarding the nomination of Retired Admiral Jamila Abubakar Sadiq for confirmation as INEC commissioner representing Adamawa State.
The President expressed hope that the Senate would consider and confirm the nominee expeditiously. Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee on INEC for legislative scrutiny, directing the panel to report back within one week.
In a separate letter, Tinubu also sought legislative approval for the appointment of Ambassador Ismail Yusuf as Chairman of NAHCON, in accordance with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026.
The Senate President subsequently referred the second nomination to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business for further legislative input, with a similar one-week timeline for reporting back to plenary.
