Apostle Suleman criticises Nigerians’ 2023 election choices, blaming their suffering on poor decisions and mismanagement under President Tinubu

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]postle Johnson Suleman, the Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, has strongly condemned Nigerians for their choices during the 2023 general elections, stating that the nation’s suffering is a direct result of these decisions.

Speaking in Bauchi State at the “Recovery Conference 2025”, Suleman, who was in the state for a two-day event, vented his frustration with the current state of the nation.

His comments were made during an interview with journalists at the Bauchi State Government House, where he was welcomed by Governor Bala Mohammed and other dignitaries, including senior pastors such as Dr. Kingsley Aigbe.

While at the Government House, Suleman praised Governor Mohammed for his leadership, describing him as a man of honour.

He also assured the governor of his ongoing prayers for Bauchi State. However, when questioned about the nation’s political climate, the cleric didn’t hold back.

“What Nigerians are going through is partly what they deserve,” Suleman declared. He expressed his discontent with the election results, recalling how he and others had raised alarm before the polls.

He criticised the election’s outcome, particularly pointing out that President Bola Tinubu, who emerged as the victor, lacked a clear manifesto and ran on an entitlement-based slogan of “it’s my turn”.

Suleman did not stop at casting blame on the election results; he also decried the current administration’s handling of the nation’s oil sector.

“The oil sector has been plundered. In the next 10 to 15 years, I don’t think Nigerians will recover from the damage,” he warned.

He suggested that Nigerians could only pray for a better future while acknowledging the deep challenges faced under President Tinubu’s leadership.

The cleric also used the opportunity to urge citizens to reflect on their choices before the 2027 elections. “If they’ve suffered enough by then, perhaps they’ll make better decisions,” he added.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who shared similar concerns, also weighed in on the state of Nigeria’s leadership.

He warned that President Tinubu’s policies, particularly the tax reforms, if unchecked, could lead the country to a dangerous path.

“Tinubu’s policies don’t have a clear vision and are taking us to the road to perdition and destruction,” he said.

Governor Mohammed further clarified that his criticisms were not personal against President Tinubu, but were based on his belief that the policies being implemented lacked the foresight needed to positively impact the nation.

He emphasised that he was not opposed to reforms, but that they must have a national impact and be properly executed.

The governor made it clear that he would continue to voice his opposition to the federal government’s policies as long as they negatively affected Nigerians.
