A non-profit organisation focused on improving the standard of education in Nigeria, IQRA Foundation, has yet again distributed school bags and other necessities to pupils of Biney Memorial Primary School, Mushin, Lagos.

The event took place on the January 29, 2021, was tagged “Back To School Drive”.

Ayomide Ladipo, programme director, IQRA Foundation, revealed that providing free quality educational material is enshrined in the foundation’s programmes.

“Part of our programmes is to provide quality educational materials and opportunities that will ensure that students in growing communities have access to quality education that will shape their future,” she said.

When asked the criteria for choosing the benefiting schools, Ladipo explained,”Part of the things we talked about during the first lockdown and when schools were about to resume, we visited some low-income community in Lagos and tried to understand the need that they had. This became important because many parents were economically and financially down as a result of the pandemic. This we believed would affect the parents in providing quality materials as the children prepared for resumption.

“IQRA then decided to ease this burden for the parents. We had a fundraising event to help 300 students with school supply in Mushin and the result is what you’re witnessing today,” she explained.

Ladipo, while admonishing the students to take their education serious, she advised the parents of the beneficiaries to play support roles.

“The duties of these parents don’t end by just sending the students to school. They should always endeavour to followup on their kids; check their lesson notes and ask them how they fared at the school.”

Aside from providing quality education materials for children in low income communities, IQRA Foundation is also into mentoring, stem programme and others as far education is concerned.

Ayomide Ladipo, however, solicited for more government’s interventions in the area of education.

“Though we criticise the government daily, I believe Lagos State government has been doing an excellent job on education but we always believe they can do more.”
