Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha both scored twice at Camp Nou, while Lamine Yamal, Marc Bernal and Fermín López added further goals in a scintillating attacking display under manager Hansi Flick.
The commanding result keeps alive Barcelona’s ambition of lifting Europe’s most prestigious club trophy for the first time since 2015, with the Spanish side showcasing a devastating level of attacking precision.
Newcastle, managed by Eddie Howe, had hoped to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in their history but instead suffered a bruising exit after collapsing in the second half.
Barcelona began with intensity and purpose, taking an early lead through Raphinha after a brilliant piece of skill from teenage forward Yamal. Newcastle responded swiftly, with Anthony Elanga finishing a slick move to level the score.
The hosts regained control when Bernal struck from close range, but defensive lapses allowed Newcastle back again, as Elanga netted his second following an error by Yamal.
Despite missed chances from Lewandowski, Barcelona regained the advantage before the break when Yamal converted from the penalty spot after a foul by Kieran Trippier.
The second half proved a procession. López extended the lead early on, a decisive moment that shattered Newcastle’s resistance and shifted the momentum entirely in Barcelona’s favour.
Lewandowski then found his rhythm, heading in from a corner before adding a second with a clinical finish, marking a powerful return to form after recent struggles.
Raphinha capped his outstanding display with another goal, punishing a defensive error to underline Barcelona’s dominance.
The atmosphere inside Camp Nou reflected the scale of the performance, with supporters celebrating a resounding victory that ranks among the club’s most impressive European nights in recent years.
Speaking after the match, Raphinha credited the home support for the team’s relentless energy, while Flick praised the confidence his players showed after the interval.
Howe, meanwhile, admitted his side were psychologically affected by conceding just before half-time and early in the second half, describing their defensive lapses as unforgivable.
