The Nigerian government has issued a travel warning for citizens planning to visit the United Kingdom, following recent violent riots sparked by the killing of three young girls at a concert.
The unrest has led to attacks on law enforcement agents and significant infrastructure damage.
Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed the alert on Monday, advising Nigerians to exercise caution.
Citizens are urged to avoid political processions, protests, rallies, or marches, steer clear of crowded areas and large gatherings, remain vigilant and self-aware, and contact the Nigerian High Commission for any pertinent information at he@nigeriahc.org.uk or +442078391244.
Recent demonstrations by far-right and other extra-parliamentary groups in the UK have become unruly, exacerbated by the deaths of the three girls, and have fuelled an anti-immigration narrative targeting Muslim immigrants and persons of colour.
The travel advisory is subject to ongoing review.
