The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) support group, known as ‘Anambra Patriots for Soludo’ (APS), rallied non-indigenes from across Nigeria residing in the state to back the incumbent governor’s bid for a second term.
The endorsement took place at a well-attended rally on Tuesday at the International Convention Centre in Awka.
The non-indigenes, representing ethnic groups such as Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Edo, Igala, and those from Akwa Ibom and Cross River, united under the ‘Association of Non-indigenes in Anambra State’ to show their support for Soludo’s “all-inclusive government.”
Okey Ezeibe, National Convener of APS, praised Soludo for his visionary leadership and highlighted the socio-economic progress achieved during his three and a half years in office.
“The decision to support the governor’s second-term bid is not only informed by his commendable achievements but also by the tangible transformation witnessed across the state,” Ezeibe said.
Alhaji Gidado Siddikki, Deputy National Director of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and Siriki Fulani Awka, also commended Soludo’s efforts in bridging infrastructural gaps and improving welfare for both indigenes and non-indigenes. He emphasised that such dedication deserves continuity.
Responding to the endorsement, Governor Soludo stressed the importance of unity and active citizenship in Nigeria. He described himself as a product of Nigeria’s independence and urged all Nigerians to embrace the spirit of brotherhood enshrined in the national anthem.
“In brotherhood we stand… is not mere words; we must work the talk and live it out daily,” he declared.
Soludo underscored Anambra’s inclusive policies, stating, “Once you live in Anambra, you are from Anambra and treated equally.”
He recalled the recruitment of over 8,000 teachers from 18 states within the first nine months of his administration as a testament to his inclusive governance.
The governor also highlighted key initiatives such as free education for pupils and students in public schools and free antenatal and delivery care services for pregnant women across the state. “These services are for everybody, no matter where you are from,” Soludo affirmed.
As the election approaches, Soludo called on all residents to participate actively in the democratic process. “Wherever you live, it should be your home. It is the duty of every citizen to vote come November 8,” he urged.
Soludo concluded by commending the grassroots ownership of the campaign, noting that for the first time in Anambra, people have donated to the campaign and taken charge of the narrative. “We are still at the introductory stage of developing Anambra.
Collaboration among all stakeholders is vital to create a state reflecting shared values and aspirations,” he said.
