What has gone wrong with TStv? That is the question subscribers are desperately trying to find answers to as the indigenous cable TV has gone off air since February, and there are no signs that its signals would return any time soon.
Those who are affected the most are customers with an active subscription that run into several months or more. While some of the subscribers are on a one-year subscription, others are 6 months or 3 months subscribers.
To make matters worse, the indigenous Pay TV company is yet to initiate any crisis management efforts. Indeed, the company has compounded the crisis by keeping its subscribers in the dark.
This prolonged blackout and a lack of communication from the company has raised fears that all is not well at the cable TV. Others are also speculating that the Pay TV operator may have gone under.
Some of the subscribers are frustrated at how the company has shown a lack of regards for the feelings of consumers. Some of the subscribers, having suffered in silence for weeks, have taken to social media to express their anger.
One of the subscribers, Edacheolohi Boniface posted on social media: “Four weeks ago TStv went offline, the company is yet to speak on it four weeks after. No single respect for customers. Nigeria has several companies in and outside the country competing with their competitors. No one is behaving this way, we have all moved on. If you like, remain blank. You will soon attend some court sessions for this breach of contract.”
Another aggrieved subscriber, Augustine Jegbefume said: “This is a shame that TStv could go off air for over a month without explaining the reason to its numerous subscribers. Their action is not in tune with good business. Most of us stuck with them in the most difficult times, when they came and left. On their final return, we welcomed them back with open arms. Suddenly they left again making a mockery of us. I begin to wonder how they can bring back their valued subscribers who by now have switched to other service providers. Do they feel that we can afford to stay away from television endlessly? I pity them.”
TStv prides itself as the first and only fully indigenous Pay TV platform in Nigeria. It was launched in October 2017 with the promise to disrupt the Pay TV segment, with innovative offerings.
The company offered the only Pay-per-view subscription plan, in an effort to lure customers from market leaders like DStv and StarTimes.
But TStv has so far failed to live up to its promise. The platform has struggled for consistency. The current blackout is not the first and it has been plaques with several other challenges.
In an interview with Nairametrics, the company explained that its current blackout is as a result of technical glitches and promised that its engineers were working to restore normal service soon.
