China has reported that new Covid-19 infections have increased to its highest numbers since April. Infection rates are up across the region, with South Korea also reporting an increase.

The cases in Beijing have been linked to a wholesales food market, which was shut down only recently. China News Service reported that 27 workers are employed there and 9 of them had either direct or indirect exposure to the virus.

The Xinfadi market was shut after 50 people tested positive for the virus. These were the first confirmed cases in the Chinese capital in 50 days.

Globally, 100 000 new cases are reported every day according to IOL. China was the original epicentre of the virus outbreak which has lead to widespread lockdown across the world.

We earlier reported how a Nigerian man became one of the latest to make the world proud as he discovered how to become a chief executive officer from the opportunity created by coronavirus.

A young man, @Swaggzeez1, brought his invention to Twitter without categorically saying if he was the one behind the idea.

Since the spread of the coronavirus across continents, countries, groups and individuals have advocated hand washing as a way of combating it.

We also reported earlier claims that five Nigerians in Guangzhou, China, had been infected with coronavirus while 6,321 foreigners were being quarantined.

Quoting The Standards, we reported that Yuexiu alone reported five imported cases, all of which were Nigerians nationals living in the same community.

Four of those Nigerians were said to have arrived in March and visited a local restaurant multiple times over a number of days before they were identified for isolation.

Meanwhile, the United States recently accused China-linked hackers of targeting organisations that are researching the Covid-19 pandemic.

BBC reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said it had seen hacking attempts on US groups researching vaccines, treatments, and testing which are traced to China.
