D’Tigress AfroBasket victory was proudly celebrated at the Presidential Villa as Nigeria’s women’s basketball team and their officials were warmly received by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and the Wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima.

The team, fresh off a stunning 78–64 win over Mali, clinched their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and seventh overall further cementing their dominance in African women’s basketball.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, standing in for President Bola Tinubu, praised D’Tigress for their resilience and dedication.
The grand welcome, held at the New Banquet Hall of the Villa at 5:05 PM, was also graced by top government officials including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Senator Garba Maidoki, and House Committee Chairman Kabiru Amadou.
“Your victory is not just a sporting achievement it is a national triumph and a symbol of what Nigerian women can accomplish,” Shettima said.
The D’Tigress AfroBasket victory celebration follows a similar reception held for the Super Falcons, who recently claimed their tenth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Rabat.
The First Lady lauded the basketball champions for being powerful role models, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting women in sports.
