The revenue was realised after 84 aspirants purchased the Edo APC Assembly forms to contest for the 24 constituency seats in the state legislature, with each aspirant paying ₦6 million to participate in the party’s primary election.
The development became public on Saturday during the screening of aspirants at the APC State Secretariat on Ikpokpan Road in the Government Reservation Area of Benin City.
The exercise drew a large turnout of party leaders, supporters and security personnel as aspirants from the 18 local government areas arrived early for accreditation and verification of credentials.
Chairman of the screening committee, Emmanuel Okoebor, said the exercise was designed to ensure that only qualified and credible aspirants emerged for the party primaries.
Okoebor explained that serving lawmakers seeking re-election were allowed to take a bow before the committee because their credentials had already been verified ahead of the screening process.
“We are committed to ensuring a transparent and credible process that will produce the best candidates for the party,” Okoebor said.
Several aspirants who spoke with journalists commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the screening, describing the process as professional and well coordinated.
The significant amount realised from the Edo APC Assembly forms highlights the growing political competition ahead of the Assembly election, with parties already intensifying strategic preparations across the state.
