According to a statement released on Saturday, the disruption resulted from a vehicle collision involving a stationary gas tanker, which sparked a fire damaging critical infrastructure on the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including conductors and overhead line equipment.
“Please be informed that the current power outage was caused by a fire incident that occurred last night following a vehicle collision with a stationary gas tanker,” the statement read.
“Our technical team is working diligently to replace the damaged components and restore the power supply as quickly and safely as possible.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen incident and thank you.”
EKEDC identified the affected areas as including Medallion Feeder (covering Medallion Company), Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan along the Ibeju 33kV feeder.
The outage coincides with a tragic gas explosion in the Ajah axis that claimed two lives and destroyed warehouses and roadside shops.
