Most of the customers of electricity distribution company have started to reject the electricity bills from the company due to the recent increment in electricity tariff.

Our correspondent reports that the electricity workers who came to distribute October bills in Gusau were driven away as the angry consumers refused them putting the bills anywhere in their shops or houses.

One of the angry consumers told this reporter that as it seems now, the electricity distribution company can come and disconnect the lights, stressing that what they bill their customers has become very unbearable.

Some of the people in Zamfara State whose businesses solely depend on electricity said they cannot pay such high amount levelled on them as the cost of production has gone up.

According to one businessman in Gusau, “I will pack up if the situation continues like this. Look at the problem of fuel hike which many people are battling to survive,” he lamented.

Another hairdresser, Miss Rosslyn lamented that before some of her customers would come into her hairdressing saloon, they would inquire whether she has increased her price or not.

“Everybody knows very well that hairdressing business depends solely on electricity, and I have many people working for me and if the situation continues like this, I have no option than to sack them and close the business.”

“When you cannot even make profit to feed your self, how do you get money to pay your workers,” she lamented.

According to one Hajiya Barakatu, she was paying N2000 per month but when the electricity workers came, the bill was N5,000, and she said she told them to disconnect the light as she could not afford the amount.
