Federal University Dutse expels 20 students and rusticates 15 for exam malpractice as the Senate enforces academic misconduct penalties
The Senate of Federal University Dutse in Jigawa State has approved the expulsion of 20 students and the rustication of 15 others following their involvement in examination malpractice.

The decision, communicated in a statement signed by Director of Academic Affairs Nora Dannatta and issued by the university’s Director of Public Affairs Abdullahi Yahaya-Bello, comes on the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct for the Second Semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.
The statement also confirmed the exoneration of two students and the issuance of written warnings to three others.
According to the university, the sanctions were applied in line with established categories of offences and punishments for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Those affected were drawn from multiple faculties and departments.
“The decision was in accordance with the categories of offences and punishments governing both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and those affected were drawn from various faculties and departments of the university,” the statement read.
This move follows similar disciplinary actions at other Nigerian universities. Freelanews previously reported that the University of Abuja expelled 28 students for offences including cult-related activities, examination malpractice, drug possession, and threats to life.
The university noted that the expelled students were found culpable of serious misconduct, including assault, conspiracy, burglary, theft, falsification of ‘O’ Level results uploaded for admission, and possession of hard drugs.
