FRSC launches 2026 Eid el-Fitr special patrol operations nationwide

FRSC announces nationwide deployment of personnel and logistics for 2026 Eid el-Fitr special patrol to ensure safe travel and reduce road accidents

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has directed the nationwide deployment of personnel and operational logistics for its 2026 Eid el-Fitr special patrol operations, aimed at ensuring safe travel during the festive period.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, stated that the operation will run from March 17 to March 22, 2026, focusing on reducing road crashes and maintaining smooth traffic flow across Nigeria’s highways.

According to the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, the special patrol aligns with the FRSC’s mandate to promote safer road use.

The operation will feature increased patrol visibility, strategic deployment of rescue teams, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns to guide motorists during the Sallah celebrations.

“The operation is designed to reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries while ensuring free-flowing traffic on major highways,” Mohammed said.

He added that the Eid period typically sees heavy vehicular movement as Muslim faithful travel to celebrate with families.

24-Hour Patrols and Emergency Response
The FRSC will maintain 24-hour patrols along critical corridors, supported by standby rescue teams, ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles, and motorcycles for rapid emergency response. Immediate removal of highway obstructions and close monitoring of traffic will also be a priority.

Enforcement will target key violations, including speeding, dangerous overtaking, tyre infractions, lane indiscipline, overloading, mix-loading, seat-belt violations, and the use of mechanically deficient vehicles.

Sector commanders have been directed to ensure full deployment of operational equipment, such as radar guns, breathalysers, traffic cones, and communication gadgets.

Collaboration and Traffic Updates
The corps will collaborate with other security and emergency agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, Federal Fire Service, and FERMA, to manage emergencies and maintain order.

Real-time traffic updates, travel advisories, and alternative route guidance will be broadcast via the National Traffic Radio 107.1FM throughout the operation.

Mohammed urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy to enjoy a safe Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The deployment is part of intensified measures to manage the anticipated surge in vehicular movement across Nigeria during the festive period, traditionally associated with higher road traffic and increased accident risks.
