Denied a ticket by the BJP, party leader Satish Kumar Sharma from Mathura has accused the saffron party of “valuing only robbers at the cost of dedicated workers”.
Sharma, who broke down into tears publicly, quit the party on Tuesday. He is likely to join the BSP.
Talking to the media, Sharma, who had unsuccessfully contested the last assembly elections from Mathura’s Maant constituency, said that “the BJP is not the party it once used to be. Now, it doesn’t follow its own ideology. Dedicated and honest workers are being ignored and robbers are getting everything. I would always use my own resources to get people’s works done and, in the return, the party denied a ticket.”
In his resignation letter to BJP national president JP Nadda, Sharma stated, “I have been associated with the party for long and have always been a dedicated worker. I am resigning from the party membership and all responsibilities due to the present circumstances.”
BJP has fielded Rajesh Chaudhary, the party’s state spokesperson, from the Maant constituency, which the saffron party had never won. The constituency has been represented consecutively for eight terms by Shyam Sunder Sharma of the BSP.
In the 2017 assembly polls, BJP candidate SK Sharma had lost to BSP’s Shyam Sundar Sharma by a margin of around 6,000 votes.
