Police promotions receive a boost as IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu approves the elevation of 17,952 junior officers across Nigeria
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to enhance personnel welfare, improve morale and reward outstanding service.

The development was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid.
According to the statement, the promotion exercise spans Commands and Formations nationwide and includes the elevation of 165 Sergeants to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals to Sergeant, and 17,714 Constables to Corporal.
The Police leadership said the exercise forms part of ongoing measures aimed at recognising diligence, professionalism and dedication among personnel.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of ongoing efforts to enhance personnel welfare, boost morale, and reward diligence, professionalism, and dedication to duty,” the statement said.
It added that the promotions were implemented across different commands and formations throughout the country.
The IGP described timely Police Promotions as a vital component of the Force’s human resource management strategy, noting that career advancement remains an important tool for motivating officers to perform their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
According to him, the elevation of deserving personnel demonstrates the commitment of the current police administration to merit-based progression, institutional development and professional excellence.
“The advancement of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current Police leadership to merit, career progression, and institutional development,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying.
Disu congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to see their advancement as a call to greater responsibility and service.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to maintain high standards of professionalism, discipline and dedication while carrying out their duties.
The police chief also reminded the officers of the importance of upholding the core values of the Nigeria Police Force, including integrity, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law.
He stressed that professionalism and commitment must remain central to their conduct as they take on their new responsibilities.

The promotion exercise is one of the largest personnel advancement initiatives undertaken by the Force in recent years and is expected to provide a significant morale boost for junior officers across the country.
