Ini Edo congratulates Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham after their films crossed ₦1bn at the box office, sharing lessons from her own movie journey

Toyin Abraham’s Oversabi Aunty recently became the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film to cross the ₦1 billion mark, while Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scene recorded an impressive ₦2.4 billion, extending its record-breaking run across cinemas in West Africa.

Reacting via Instagram, Ini Edo praised both actresses for their dedication and strategic approach to filmmaking and promotion.

“I want to congratulate these industry titans, @funkeakindele and @toyinabraham, for literally breaking all records and pushing beyond every envelope to record these groundbreaking successes for Nollywood,” she wrote. “The level of commitment, strategizing, marketing and playing the game generally is on a whole different level.”

Ini Edo also reflected on her own 2025 project, A Very Dirty Christmas, expressing pride in herself and her team despite the film not achieving similar box office numbers.

She admitted that the experience taught her valuable lessons and hinted at a possible return to movie production in 2026.

“I sacrificed my holiday to achieve an ambition. I am particularly proud of myself and my team who stayed committed to the project. We came, we pushed, made our mark and learned our lessons,” she said.

Encouraging her fans and fellow creatives, the actress urged them not to fear taking risks, adding that success and failure are both part of growth.
