UK innovative founder visa application process in London for entrepreneurs and startups. Explore visa requirements, eligibility, and support for launching new businesses in the UK.

Innovator Founder visa now allows UK students, including Nigerians, to switch from Study visas without leaving, boosting entrepreneurial opportunities

Innovator Founder visa changes are set to transform the experience of international students in the UK, allowing them to switch directly from a Study visa without returning home.

Starting November 25, 2025, students holding valid Study visas can apply for the Innovator Founder route from within the UK.

This marks a major shift from previous regulations that required applicants to leave the country before submitting their business visa application.

The new rules are expected to remove significant barriers for foreign students, enabling them to launch innovative ventures while their applications are processed.

The Innovator Founder visa allows holders to create and operate a business that offers unique products or services not currently available in the UK market.

Applicants must provide a viable business plan endorsed by a recognised Innovator Founder endorsing body and meet all eligibility criteria.

The policy follows recommendations from the UK White Paper 2025, which emphasised retaining entrepreneurial talent among students already studying in the country.

With the discontinuation of the Start-up visa, the Innovator Founder route now serves as the primary pathway for foreign nationals seeking to establish new businesses in the UK.

Students must meet specific conditions to engage in business activities under this visa.

They can only be self-employed if their application includes an endorsement from an approved body, is submitted while their Study visa is valid, and they have applied under the Innovator Founder route.

This update is expected to particularly benefit Nigerians, who represent one of the largest groups of international students in the UK, and is anticipated to encourage a wave of entrepreneurship among the country’s student population.
